Team Leaders – Shining lights or silent assassins

AssassinTeam leaders are the crucial cogs in your organisation, they make or break your carefully planned strategies and initiatives.  Often promoted because they were good at their job they start off being shining lights, keen, eager, highly motivated, want to do well.
Soon they realise this new role ‘leading a team’ requires a whole new set of skills and yet we often assume that magically almost overnight they will have this new set of skills without development or support.  This is when they can easily and surprisingly quickly turn into assassins.

Now not only are they struggling with the demands of the job they are also de-motivated and who do they blame for all this :

• Their manager
• The company

They will, at any opportunity and often publicly criticise them and moan how poorly they have been treated, yet all of this is avoidable.
Develop and support your new team leaders, if you don’t you need to ask yourself am I growing the next crop of silent assassins.
