Eat the Elephant Achieves Notable ilm Double

Staffordshire-based people development specialists Eat the Elephant are celebrating a double “whammy” having gained continuing Institution of Leadership and Management (ilm) accreditation, as well as building a major relationship contract with Northamptonshire County Council.

The Lichfield-based company - authorised to run ilm accreditation management programmes covering Levels 3 and 5 – has linked up  with Northamptonshire County Council to deliver an integrated management development programme.

Social Care Learning and Development Manager, Lorna Jackson, sponsoring the programme on behalf of Northamptonshire County Council, commented: "In order to deliver a good customer service, it is imperative that our managers are supported in their development, enabling them to make the right decisions, provide consistent leadership and build on their experience.

I am delighted to be working with such a professional and premier management development company like Eat the Elephant in bringing this opportunity to the Council.

"In developing this programme, Eat the Elephant has demonstrated how in tune it is with many of the issues and dilemmas associated with providing good strong leadership and management - particularly affecting public sector managers.

"They have used this knowledge and practical experience to collaborate with us on developing what I believe is a flexible and responsive programme tailored to meet our current and future management development needs,” she added.

Eat the Elephant director Martin Rafe commented: "We are delighted to be working closely with them on the development and implementation of a much awaited, innovative and nationally accredited 12 month programme".

"This management development programme is designed specifically and  aimed at aspiring, newly appointed or experienced managers who are looking to build on their knowledge and development.

"The programme, is in line with the Council’s impressive mission to promote and develop strong leadership and management skills, and is designed to be engaging, educational and enjoyable.

"A key ingredient of Eat the Elephant programmes is that our team have held management positions and can therefore provide credible and practical experience that has been successfully used in the ‘field.’ This enables us to provide people development opportunities that combine a potent mix of practical expertise as well as the academic based theory element of the ilm qualification."

Co-director Tracey Willmott adds: "An ilm qualification adds another dimension to development programmes that companies can provide to their people.
The overall philosophy here is one of structured personal development for the individual which enhances their motivation, company loyalty and effectiveness in the workplace to bring improved organisational performance and so measurable benefits.

The fact that it is a national recognised qualification means that it is portable and employees can see the true worth of undertaking the course. As a company, Eat the Elephant can not only devise and deliver the programmes, but can award the relevant qualifications.

"We really look to tailor the courses to meet the needs of the individual businesses we work with. Of course we include the core content that the qualification requires, but make it really relevant to a particular sector."
